Family days out

Getting to Warner Bros. Studio Tour London by Private Car: A Practical Guide

The Studio Tour is about 20 miles north-west of Central London. Here is how to get there on time for your slot, with or without the train.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter is one of the most popular days out for families visiting London. It is in Leavesden, near Watford, about 20 miles north-west of Central London. Getting there on time for your ticket slot is the part people most often ask us about.

Mason & Green is an independent transport company and is not connected with Warner Bros. We provide the car and driver only.

  • DistanceAbout 20 miles from Central London
  • By carAbout an hour, depending on traffic

Book your tickets first

Studio Tour tickets cannot be bought at the door. Every visit has a timed entry slot, and popular dates such as weekends and school holidays sell out well ahead. Book your slot first, then book your transport around it.

Plan to arrive about 20 minutes before your slot. There is a bag check at the entrance. Most visitors spend three to three and a half hours inside, and the Studio Tour's café and shop make it easy to stay longer.

Option 1: train and shuttle bus

The nearest station is Watford Junction. Fast trains from London Euston take about 20 minutes, and a shuttle bus runs from the station to the Studio Tour at least every 30 minutes, taking about 15 minutes. You will need your Studio Tour booking to board it.

From most Central London hotels, allow around an hour and a half door to door: getting to Euston, waiting for a fast train, then waiting for the shuttle. It works well for adults travelling light.

Option 2: a private car

The Studio Tour itself recommends using only pre-booked, licensed taxis. With a private car, you are collected from your hotel, driven straight to the Studio Tour car park and met there afterwards for the drive home. There are no changes, no queues for the shuttle, and no tired children on the Underground at the end of the day.

A private car is particularly useful if:

  • you are travelling with young children, a pushchair or grandparents;
  • your slot is early in the morning or you finish late;
  • you are coming straight from an airport. The Studio Tour is about 23 miles from Heathrow and 17 from Luton;

A typical day with a 10:00 slot

  1. Pickup from your hotel or home in Central London.
  2. Arrive at the Studio Tour, about 20 minutes before your slot.
  3. Your Studio Tour slot. Take as long as you like (about 3½ hours).
  4. Your driver meets you at the agreed point in the car park.
  5. Drop-off back at your hotel or home.

Travelling with children

UK law requires children to use a suitable child car seat until they are 12 years old or 135cm tall, whichever comes first. Licensed private hire vehicles have some exemptions, but a properly fitted seat is always safer. Ask for child seats when you book: they are available in our Comfort, MPV and van vehicles. Questions we are often asked

Can we stay longer inside the Studio Tour?

Yes. Add extra hours when you book, or simply let your driver know on the day. Waiting time beyond your booked hours is charged at the hourly rate.

What if our ticket slot is in the afternoon?

We move the whole timetable to fit your slot. Tell us the slot time when you book, and we will collect you about an hour and a half before it.

Can you take us from Heathrow straight to the Studio Tour?

Yes. Heathrow is about 23 miles away. Make sure your slot leaves plenty of time after landing for immigration and baggage, and tell us about your luggage so we send a vehicle with enough space.

Do we need tickets before we travel?

Yes. The Studio Tour does not sell tickets on arrival. Book your timed ticket on the official website before you book your car.

Is Mason & Green part of the Studio Tour?

No. We are an independent, TfL-licensed private hire company. We provide the transport only; tickets and the visit itself are with Warner Bros. Studio Tour London.

About Mason & Green: Mason & Green is a TfL-licensed London private hire operator (licence 10629), founded in 2011.
