Southampton service overview
Southampton is the UK’s leading cruise gateway, so cruise-day timing, terminal knowledge and luggage planning matter. Mason & Green provides a refined door-to-door transfer service for cruise arrivals, departures, hotel stays, airport connections and multi-city itineraries.
Southampton cruise transfers
From early embarkations to busy disembarkation mornings, our Southampton service is designed to make cruise travel easier.
Southampton has been one of Britain’s most important maritime gateways for centuries. Its sheltered deep-water harbour helped the city grow as a centre for trade, passenger travel, ocean liners and international connections.
The port became especially famous during the golden age of ocean travel. RMS Titanic departed from Southampton on 10 April 1912, and the story remains deeply connected with the city’s maritime identity.
Today, Southampton is widely regarded as the UK’s leading cruise port and a major home port for British and international cruise holidays. It serves large ships, luxury liners, family cruises and world voyages, making reliable transfer planning an important part of the passenger experience.
Southampton has five main cruise terminals: City Cruise Terminal, Horizon Cruise Terminal, Mayflower Cruise Terminal, Ocean Cruise Terminal and Queen Elizabeth II Terminal. The Eastern Docks serve Ocean and QEII, while the Western Docks serve City, Horizon and Mayflower.
Ocean Cruise Terminal is one of Southampton’s major cruise facilities and is accessed through the Eastern Docks. It is used by a variety of cruise operators and is suitable for large cruise ships.
The Queen Elizabeth II Terminal, often called QEII Terminal, is a long-established Southampton cruise terminal serving visiting and home-port cruise ships.
City Cruise Terminal is located in the Western Docks and is commonly used for major cruise departures. It is convenient for passengers arriving from Central London, Heathrow and local Southampton hotels.
Horizon Cruise Terminal opened as Southampton’s newest cruise terminal and was designed for modern cruise operations, including larger passenger volumes and improved terminal facilities.
Mayflower Cruise Terminal is another key Southampton passenger terminal and is regularly used for cruise departures and arrivals. Drivers plan the route according to the confirmed terminal and port access on the day.
For cruise arrivals, your collection is planned around your ship, terminal and disembarkation time. Cruise ships can clear passengers in stages, and timings may be affected by ship clearance, luggage collection, immigration procedures and port traffic.
After leaving the terminal building, passengers should follow the terminal’s signed passenger collection route. Your Mason & Green driver will coordinate the meeting point with you and guide you to the vehicle, helping with luggage where possible.
If you have priority disembarkation, mobility requirements, a large number of suitcases, children, pushchairs, golf clubs or multiple cabins travelling together, please tell us when booking so the correct vehicle and collection timing can be arranged.
For cruise departures, your driver will take you to the correct Southampton cruise terminal and drop you as close to the terminal entrance as permitted by port staff and the day’s traffic management procedures.
Drivers assist with luggage where possible. For families, elderly travellers and guests joining luxury cruises, we recommend building in extra time for unloading, check-in, security and any terminal queues.
Heathrow Airport is one of the most popular arrival points for passengers joining cruises in Southampton. The journey is usually via the M25 and M3, with timing affected by airport terminal, motorway traffic, school holidays, cruise ship departure schedules and weather.
| Route | Typical private transfer time | Planning note |
|---|---|---|
| Heathrow Airport to Southampton Cruise Port | 1 hour 30 minutes – 2 hours | Allow extra time for peak motorway traffic and cruise embarkation days. |
| Heathrow Terminal 5 to Southampton | 1 hour 20 minutes – 1 hour 50 minutes | Often the quickest Heathrow terminal route towards the M25 and M3. |
| Heathrow Terminals 2 or 3 to Southampton | 1 hour 30 minutes – 2 hours | Timing depends on airport roads, M25 flow and onward M3 traffic. |
Central London to Southampton is a longer journey and should be planned carefully, especially for same-day cruise departures. Mason & Green recommends allowing a generous buffer for London traffic, motorway delays and port check-in windows.
| Route | Typical private transfer time | Planning note |
|---|---|---|
| Westminster to Southampton Cruise Port | 2 hours – 2 hours 45 minutes | Best planned with additional time during weekday mornings. |
| Kensington or Chelsea to Southampton | 1 hour 50 minutes – 2 hours 45 minutes | Access to the M3 is usually more direct from west London. |
| Mayfair or Marylebone to Southampton | 2 hours – 3 hours | Allow extra time for Central London traffic. |
| Canary Wharf to Southampton | 2 hours 30 minutes – 3 hours 15 minutes | East London departures usually require a longer buffer. |
