Royal Ascot is the highlight of the racing calendar and one of the great social events of the British summer. Each afternoon begins with the Royal Procession down the course.

Tickets and dress codes

Royal Ascot has four public enclosures: the Royal Enclosure, Queen Anne, Village and Windsor, each with its own dress code. The Royal Enclosure and Queen Anne codes are strict, with morning dress or a dark lounge suit for men and formal day wear with a hat for women. Check Ascot's official dress code for your enclosure before the day.

Getting there by car

The racecourse is about 25 miles west of Central London, reached via the M4 or M3, and only about 8 miles from Heathrow, which makes it popular with visitors flying in. Traffic around Ascot builds sharply before the gates open, so leave plenty of time.

Taxis and private hire vehicles use designated drop-off and pickup points near the enclosures, and the arrangements differ by enclosure and can change each year. Tell us which enclosure you are in when you book, and your driver will take you to the right point.

Train or car?

Trains run from Waterloo to Ascot in under an hour, and the station is a short walk from the racecourse. They are good value but very crowded on race days, especially after the last race. In formal clothes and heels, many racegoers prefer a car from their door to the drop-off point, and a guaranteed pickup when they are ready to leave.

Our tips

  • Book your car early. Ascot week is one of the busiest of the year for chauffeur services.
  • Agree a pickup point and approximate time with your driver. Many racegoers stay for the singing at the bandstand after the last race.
  • Staying nearby? Windsor is close by, and we can combine race days with a day at Windsor Castle and Eton.
  • Hosting guests? We can coordinate several executive cars or people carriers for your group.
