Big Events at Wembley, The O2 and Twickenham: Getting There and Home

A concert at The O2 or a final at Wembley is unforgettable. The journey home doesn't have to be. Huge crowds, road closures and event-day parking rules catch out many visitors. Here is how to plan the travel around London's biggest venues.

Wembley Stadium

Wembley is the UK's largest stadium. The nearest stations are Wembley Park (Jubilee and Metropolitan lines), Wembley Central and Wembley Stadium. On event days, a residents-only parking scheme operates across the area, and illegally parked cars are fined and may be towed. Official car parks must be booked in advance.

The O2, Greenwich

The O2 sits on the Greenwich Peninsula next to North Greenwich station on the Jubilee line. After big concerts, queues at the station can be long. Roads off the peninsula, including routes to the Blackwall Tunnel, are also busy.

Allianz Stadium, Twickenham

Twickenham Stadium has been known as Allianz Stadium, Twickenham since September 2024. It is about a 10-minute walk from Twickenham station. On match days, a controlled parking zone covers about a mile around the stadium, with fines and towing, and stadium parking must be pre-booked. It is only about 6 miles from Heathrow, which is handy for international fans.

Planning a pickup after the event

  • Agree a pickup point outside the closure area. Cars can't reach the stadium entrance when the crowds leave, so a 10- to 15-minute walk away is usually much quicker.
  • Expect traffic to take a while to clear. If you are not in a hurry, a drink or bite to eat nearby while the crowds disperse can make the journey faster overall.
  • Keep your phone charged. Mobile networks can be overloaded next to a full stadium, so agree the meeting point before you go in.
  • Coming from the airport on match day? Allow extra time, as roads near the venue are slow for hours before kick-off or doors.

Groups

For a group of friends or a corporate hospitality party, an MPV or Business Van for up to six can take you door to door, and avoids crowded Tube platforms on the way home. For bigger groups, we can coordinate several cars.
