Villages, ponds and historic houses
Carshalton is the borough's prettiest corner, with spring-fed ponds at its centre, the Grove park and several historic houses. Honeywood Museum, beside the ponds, tells the local history, and Little Holland House is the Arts and Crafts home of the artist and designer Frank Dickinson. In Cheam, Whitehall is a timber-framed house dating from around 1500.
On the borough's western edge, Nonsuch Park covers part of the site of Henry VIII's lost Nonsuch Palace. Sutton town centre is the main shopping area, and BedZED at Hackbridge is a well-known early example of an eco-friendly housing development. The Royal Marsden Hospital's Sutton site is a major regional cancer centre.
