William Morris and the forest
Walthamstow is the birthplace of William Morris, and the William Morris Gallery occupies his former family home in Lloyd Park. It is one of the best places to see his designs and learn about the Arts and Crafts movement. Walthamstow's long street market and the neon art of God's Own Junkyard add to the area's character.
The borough runs north to Chingford and the edge of Epping Forest, where Queen Elizabeth's Hunting Lodge, built for Henry VIII in the 1540s, overlooks Chingford Plain. Walthamstow Wetlands, opened to the public in 2017, is a large nature reserve on working reservoirs. Leyton and Leytonstone, where Alfred Hitchcock was born, complete the borough.

Getting in and out
The Victoria line ends at Walthamstow Central, and Walthamstow, Wood Street, Highams Park and Chingford are on the London Overground route to Liverpool Street. The Central line serves Leyton and Leytonstone. The A406 North Circular and A12 are the main roads, with the M11 close by.
Airport transfers from Waltham Forest
Stansted is usually the most convenient airport, via the A406 and M11. London City is reached via the A12 or A406 and A13. Heathrow and Gatwick are longer journeys, and traffic on the North Circular can vary considerably.
See our Stansted Airport transfers page.
Pickup tips for this borough
Walthamstow town centre has a long pedestrian market street, so we agree a pickup point on a nearby road. Forest-edge addresses in Chingford can be dark and quiet, so clear house numbers help for early-morning collections.
