Practical local guidance for visitors travelling around Wandsworth, with key neighbourhoods, attractions, transport connections and private-transfer planning.

Wandsworth Travel & Transfer Guide

Explore the London Borough of Wandsworth, including its history, main areas, attractions, transport, dining, hidden gems and local ambiance.

Wandsworth stretches from Battersea Power Station to Putney and Tooting. It has some of London's largest commons, the start of the Boat Race and Clapham Junction, one of Britain's busiest railway stations.

Power station, commons and the river

Battersea Power Station, with its four white chimneys, reopened in 2022 after decades of redevelopment as a shopping, dining and office destination. Nearby, Battersea Park has a peace pagoda, boating lake and children's zoo, and Nine Elms is home to the US Embassy.

Upstream, Putney is where the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race begins each spring. Wandsworth, Clapham and Tooting commons give the borough plenty of open space, and Tooting Bec Lido is one of the largest open-air swimming pools in England. Balham, Earlsfield and Tooting have busy high streets and markets.

Places worth knowing

  • Battersea Power Station – shops, restaurants and the chimney lift.
  • Battersea Park – lakeside walks, pagoda and children's zoo.
  • Putney riverside – rowing clubs and the Boat Race start.
  • Tooting Market and Tooting Bec Lido – food and outdoor swimming.

Getting in and out

The Northern line serves Battersea Power Station, Clapham, Balham and Tooting, and the District line ends at Wimbledon via East Putney. The A3, A205 South Circular and A24 are the main roads.
